When Ethan and Riccardo got an early copy of the Council of Europe’s 2020 update to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages Companion Volume (CEFRCV), they were immediately struck by a huge new section called ‘mediation’. What exactly did this term mean in the context of language learning and teaching? Defined broadly as ‘the act of facilitating communication and cooperation’, mediation is now considered a fundamental part of language learning. Publishers, writers and teachers increasingly need to provide activities that develop strategies and competencies associated with mediation.
This book aims to:
- explain the three types of mediation activities: the mediation of texts, concepts and communication.
- provide practical tasks which take you through the process of creating mediation activities.
- explain how to effectively scaffold mediation activities.
This book forms part of the ELT Teacher 2 Writer training course. The course is designed to help you write better ELT materials, either for publication, or simply to improve the quality of your self-produced classroom materials.
